I Evoke You - Week 3

I really dig texture which is probably why I LOVE working with chipboard so much!  Stampin' Up!'s Chipboard Special ends on Saturday, so I've been showing my stampers & scrapbookers different ways to embellish and use chipboard for their papercrafting projects.  Today I realized I have never showed them this technique - covering chipboard with ribbon scraps.  So here is a quick tutorial followed by my finished layout.

Covering A Raw Chipboard Shape With Ribbon

100_6340     Gather some ribbon scraps and your chipboard shape along with your adhesive.  I used Tombo Multi Adhesive from Stampin' Up!

100_6342

Apply a thin layer of adhesive to the chipboard shape.

100_6343

Layer ribbon scraps over chipboard, then cut away excess.

Your chipboard shape is ready to use as a fun embellishment.

When I went looking for a photo to use with my finished star, this is what I came across:

100_6345

a pile of photos, (under a stack of papers) getting bent & beat!  This particular pile is photos that others have given me, (i.e. the kids teachers, classmates moms, etc).

100_6338

I also decided that I should use up some of the scraps that I have left from certain Designer Series Paper Collections.  So this is what I pulled together from my stash.

How thrilled do you think I was when I noticed this on the back of the photo!  A special message from Aedan's Vacation Bible School Teacher - dated ta-boot!

As I was getting ready to put adhesive on the back of the photo I realized that not only did I not want to lose this special note to my son in his teacher's own handwriting, but that it would also be perfect as the journaling for the page.  So I photocopied it onto Very Vanilla Cardstock before adhering the photo.  Then I cut the photocopied message into strips to use on my page.

I Challenge You - 3

Voila!  Seriously, I wish I had a "Staples Easy Button"!  I would have pressed it when I was done!

So.... this weekend "I  Evoke You"  to scrapbook a photo that someone else took and gave you.  It could be getting bent in a pile somewhere like mine was or it could be a photo that's been pinned to your refrigerator for longer than you can remember!

(Short commercial break): If you would like to take advantage of Stampin' Up!'s Chipboard special, email me - Saturday, May 31 is the last day to get 25% off!  It's also the last day to get a Free Hobby Blade with the purchase of the Craft Mat (as seen above in my tutorial).

My regular E-Newsletter will go out on Tuesday with my updated class & kit offerings so if you do not already receive them be sure to use the sign-up box in the upper right corner of my blog! (I now return you to my regular blog post)

Our weekend plans include some painting projects & yardwork.  While I've got the paintbrushes out I'm going to paint a cool shelf thingy that I think will work for my punches & ribbon, which should free up a few drawers for my chipboard organization plan!  I'll post some pictures over the weekend to show you how it  turns out!

Link up your creations for my "I Evoke You" weekend challenge here in the comments of this post!  (FYI - I changed the name of my weekend challenge from "I Challege You" to "I Evoke you" because it fits better with the name of my blog!)  Have fun, I can't wait to see what you come up with!

I'll show you mine if you show me yours...

it was a crazy buzy weekend and I didn't take nearly enough photos for my challenge, however I'm going to work with what I have and it will be okay!  Can't believe it's already Wednesday - I feel like I can't seem to get ahead over here!  So many ideas, so little time!  Anyway,  I've got to get ready for a spiral bound card class I'm teaching tonight, but I will leave you with one photo from our day in Boston:

100_6232_0001

Are you wondering???

I've got the next two days "off" from teaching classes so I plan to lock myself in my studio and play!  I'll be posting some creative fun stuff over the next few days!  Hope you had a great weekend - tell me, what did you do?

Chipboard, Challenge & Weekend plans...

Birthday card chipboard

Here's one of the cards I designed for my Technique Club girls for this past Monday night.  I really love using chipboard elements on my cards and layouts - I love texture!

This chipboard star was covered with Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper, and then embellished with a Rub-on from the Anchored collection and a Jumbo Brass Eyelet. (All products Stampin' Up!)

I designed a similar layout for my 2 Scrapbooking Clubs that met on Tuesday & Wednesday of this week!  So needless to say it's been a busy week!

This weekend is supposed to be georgous (at least in this part of the country) - so this weekend "I Challenge you" to get outdoors and create a layout documenting places you go and/or things you do this weekend.  If gas prices have got you down, there's no need to go any further than your own backyard!  If making cards or 3-d projects is more your "thang", then your challenge is to make a card or 3-d item for someone you'll see this weekend, just because!   The purpose of this week's challenge is to not let it all go by in a blur!  Take time to appreciate, enjoy & document some of this weekends happenings even if you are just using this weekend to catch up on you laundry!

Be sure to link up your creations here when you get them done!  Can't wait to see what you create!  We've got a very full weekend ahead, trip to Boston, trip to Mystic, CT, Kyla's birthday and more all packed into this long weekend!  So, I'll for sure have lots to share!  Have a great weekend, whatever you have planned - I can't wait to hear all about it!

Apparently Tuesday came & went too.....

.....but I'm happy to announce that the winner of the random drawing is:

I hope I made the deadline. Thanks for the challenge. I love doing them and seeing all the results.
Mandy Sutton

Congrats Mandy!  I'll get your goodies out in the mail to you!

Everyones layouts and cards were awesome and so inspiring!  I wish you could have seen them all (some of the participants didn't link here, but emailed me instead as they did not have a place to post their photos online).

I hope you all had fun participating and that my challenge prompted you to do something creative that you otherwise would not have done!

I'll be posting some more creations from my AMStudio May 2008 "Joyful' Papercrafting kit hopefully later today - definately by tomorrow!  (I've got a scrapbook class to teach this evening so my personal playtime is limited today!).

I Challenge You & a Giveaway!

When I was printing out pictures yesterday to scrap with, I noticed that my color was a bit off.   If you've ever attended one of my workshops or classes you've heard me say,  "there are no mistakes, only creative opportunites"  - The photo I was printing was supposed to be black & white, however when it printed it immediately reminded me of this book cover:

The Blue Day Book

so using my "bad" photo as a creative opportunity I made this layout:

The_blue_day_baby  So my challenge to you this weekend is to create a layout or card, using a book cover as your inspiration!

Link your creations here in the comments section of this post by this Sunday night and if you need a little push to get you going, I'll randomly draw a winner from those who posted to win these fun Stampin' Up!  goodies:

100_6231    Ribbon Originals Rustic Retreat Ribbon, Brass White Circle Metal Edge Tags & Rust Stampin' Emboss Powder - Over $20 worth of Stampin' & Scrappin' Goodness!

So get crackin' and link up your creations here by Sunday night!  I'll draw a winner on Monday!  Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

(FYI - This layout is yet another one using my AMStudio May 2008 "Joyful" Papercrafting Kit.  If you are not yet on my E-mail list and did not get the details, let me know and I'll forward you the scoop on what's included and how to get it!  You can also see other samples using this kit in the album in the sidebar.)

Scrappy goodness & changing styles!

This_boy As promised, here's another layout using my AMStudio May 2008 "Joyful" Papercrafting kit!

Hoping to play some more with it tonight after everyone goes to sleep!

I went out the other day on a mission to do some thrifting for some vintage milk glass pieces, (or "white stuff" as I call it), to add to my collection and to get a copy of Romantic Homes magazine.  I'm totally inspired by vintage things and while I typically am not a "girly girl",  I think my style is changing.   Here's what I got in my travels...

100_6219Romantic Homes Magazine for me, Time Magazine for David, and Artful Blogging Magazine for me.

100_6220 This peek inside Romantic Homes Magazine inspired me to buy...

100_6221 ...this adorable creamer!

100_6222 and I was able to add 2 new pieces to my newly started Milk glass collection.  I'm going to put a little grouping of them on a set of shelves.

What inspires you lately?
